Thursday

Day 70 Dec 22

The puppies had their final vaccination today. Matt (now called Timber) and Doyle (now called Mally) came too. It was lovely to see them again.

The puppies were all weighed

Doyle 7.45kg

Matt 7.65kg

Flynn 9.4kg

Ruby 7.4kg.

I think Flynn will need to go on a diet. He goes to his new home with Mum tomorrow

Sunday

Day 66 Dec 18

Took both puppies out together for a walk. Not easy on my own as they seem to like going in opposite directions or round the back of me and tying me in knots.

We went and stood outside the newsagents and watched people coming and going, cars parking, people pushing push chairs and riding bikes. Flynn wants to go up to everything whereas Ruby likes to sit and look for a bit. They said hello to a Dandie Dinmont terrier and his mum.

Went to see Doyle, now called Mally in his new home. he has settled in well.

Ruby with her ball

Saturday

Day 65 Dec 17

Flynn went to mums for the day again to get used to his new house. He apparently helped to put up the Christmas decorations.

Ruby and Minnie went out for a walk together round the block. They said hello to a westie and his owners and saw lots of cars. Ruby is not botehred byt hem at all so hopefully will not want to chase them.

Thursday

Day 63 Dec 15

9 weeks old today. Went to a puppy party at the vets. there were 2 other puppies there a tiny Jack Russell and a German Shepherd. Ruby seemed to think the Jack Russell was a toy and kept trying to chase it. The german Shepherd slept a lot of the time.

The puppies were microchipped and weighed while we were there.

Flynn was 8.25 kg. I looked up caseys weight at 9 weeks and he was only 6.6kg.

Ruby was 6.6kg and I thought she was small.! the German Shepherd was 10 weeks old but only weighed 5.8kg but he was very thin.

Wednesday

Day 62 Dec 14

Ashleigh and I took Flynn and Ruby for a walk around town. We went to the petshop and looked at the treats and toys which they really liked. We went to the hardware shop and the girls there were amazed how much she had grown.

they saw all sorts of strange things such as pushchairs, shopping trolleys, people with sticks. Many people stopped to say how nice they were. Two puppies seem to attract a lot more attention than one.

Tuesday

Day 61 Dec 13

the puppies are 2 months old today. Ruby came back this morning after spending the night at mums. she was very good and did not mind being away from home. Flynn was pleased to see her.

Monday

Day 60 Dec 12

Doyles new owner called to say that a friend of his was really impressed with Doyle (now called Mally) and asked if Matt was still available. they came to see him and took him away with them so we are down to 2 puppies, Ruby who will be staying and Flynn who will be going to mums.

Ruby stayed at mums all day and is going to come home tomorrow so there was only Flynn here after Matt went. He did not like being on his own.

Matt

Sunday

Day 59 - Dec 11

Hilary came to visit this morning and enjoyed playing with all the puppies. Took them out for walks this afternoon.

Saturday

Day 58 - Dec 10

stayed at home today. the puppies don't seem to have noticed that Doyle is missing and it doesn't make it much easier to manage. Took them each for a walk up the road on their own.

Doyle (left) and Flynn

Friday

Day 57 Dec 9

The people came to see Doyle this afternoon and took him with them so we are now down to 3 puppies. His new owner called to day he had got back safely, and Doyle had pulled over the christmas tree and barked at the other dogs. He seems to be settling in well!

Thursday

Day 56 Dec 08

8 Weeks old today. Took ruby to Granddads house for a visit. she loved exploring. She found Grandads ornamental cat made of rabbit fur and wanted to eat it so we had to move that, then she found a fur throw that was under the stairs and obviously thought it was an animal as she wouldn't go up to it and barked at it a few times. She did get brave enough to sniff it eventually and realised it wasn't an animal.

Someone phoned about the puppies tonight and is very interested in Doyle.

Doyle at 8 weeks old

Monday

Day 53 Dec 05

Day 53

The puppies had their first injection today. We had an appointment first thing and took the puppies in one at a time. The vet cchecked them and they were fine and they didn't notice the vaccination at all.

The puppies were all weighed while we were there Matt and Flynn were 6.6kg

Doyle was 5.8kg

Ruby was 5.2kg

After that we went for a walk around the market and said hello to some of the traders. It took a while as I had to carry each puppy. they all seemed to like speaking to the new people. They did seem to get heavy though as they had to be carried

Sunday

Day 52 Dec 04

Took all the puppies over to mums to do some temperament testing. They all dod really well. Doyle Matt and Ruby all scored mostly 3s which apparently indicates they should be good pets. Doyle scored more 2s which indicated he is a bit more lively which is about right. one of the tests was to put the puppies ontop of a box with a ramp and see how quickly they learn to go up and down the ramp. all the puppies managed it with a bit of coaxing except Doyle who zoomed straight down without being shown and then zoomed straight back up again. A future agility dog?

The puppies all met mums cats, none of them were quite sure what to make of these strange creatures. The cats are well used to dogs so rubbed themselves over the puppies and bashed them if they stepped out of line.

I took the puppies out for a walk on the leads again, one at a time this time, they are getting much more confident and were quite happy to go along the road for a bit.

Saturday

Day 51 Dec 03

Ruby and Flynn went to Mums for the afternoon and Matt a Doyle stayed at home. They travelled in the back of the car instead of the crate for the first time. they were not keen and did yell a bit but soon settled.

Neither of them seemed to miss the others but they were definitley pleased to see each other when they came back.

Friday

Day 50 Dec 02

a quieter day today as we didn't go anywhere. spent time playing with the puppies and doing a little training with them

Thursday

day 49 Dec 01

Seven weeks old today. I took them to dog training again and they ran in and said hello to everyone. They settled down in their cage very quickly and didn't yell as much as last week.

they all had a cuddle with the other people there and said hello to some of the dogs

Wednesday

Day 48 Nov 30

Took the puppies up to ring craft tonight. first of all I had Ruby and Flynn and then swapped over and brought Matt and Doyle.

They took it all in their stride. Flynn Doyle and Matt walked in as if they owned the place and said hello to all the other dogs and people. Matt found the christmas tree and wanted to play with the baubles. ribu was a little less sure of the place and spent a little time sitting under a chair looking around but she soon settled down. She played with a mini Dachshund and a Samoyed.

Saturday

Day 30 Nov 12

The puppies went for a ride in the car today in the cage. they soon settled to sleep. We parked in a car park and stood by the road holding the puppies so they could see the cars going past.

Matt can now get out of the puppy pen in the kitchen if I leave the door open. there will be no stopping them soon.

Wednesday

Day 27 Nov 09

Introduced the clicker to the puppies today. I got a bit of cat food on my fingers and clicked as I let the puppies lick it off. they seemed to register the clicker but wern't bothered by it.

We are still practising the stand and handling the puppies all over each day

Mum came over to play with them and they went outside for a run around at lunchtime as the weather was good. they really seem to loke running around on the patio and sniffing around the plant pots.

I put little cat collars on them today so they could get used to wearing them. they scratched at them a bit but soon forgot about them.

Matt - 3040g

Ruby - 2510g

Gizmo - 2980g

Doyle - 2600g

The puppies are still eating only small amounts of meat but are obviously getting enough milk from Amber as they are growing well

Tuesday

Day 26 Nov 08

The puppies are eating a bit more now. They had tripe for tea last night and for dinner today. they still wan to feed from Amber whenever they see her.

They hav been in to all the rooms down stirs now and are getting much more confident running around from room to room.

They are really play fighting now and are starting to play tuggy

Matt - 2920g

Ruby - 2420g

Gizmo - 2850g

Monday

DAY 25 Nov 07

The puppies had scrambled egg for lunch today and they seemed to like it as it disappeared very quickly.

Sunday

Day 24 Nov 06

Weighed the puppies this morning

Matt - 2790g
Ruby - 2270g
Gizmo - 2640g
Doyle - 2350g

Ruby is the smallest nowand Doyle is doing his best to catch up with the other two. I will not be able to weigh Matt for much longer as I think the scales only weigh up to 3 Kg.

The puppies had their first car ride today. I put them in the back and then we went up and down the drive twice! They were fine and I am not sure they even noticed we moved.

I hoovered round the puppy pen this morning while they were awake and they totally ignored the vacuum cleaner.

Saturday

Day 23 Nov 05

Puppies are getting more confident. When they went outside this morning they were exploring further and looking round rather than just standing and whining.

They had a walk round the kitchen after that and have been in to the living room. I am aiming to give the puppies at least one new experience a day.

Claire and Tristan came round so they had a cuddle of the puppies.

Thursday

Day 21 Nov 03

Three weeks old today. The puppies are eating a bit of solid food but are still feeding a lof from Amber. I put them into the pen in the kitchen for an hour but they didn't like it much and yelled but they don't need to move out there permanently yet so I will just put them in it for a time each day to get used to it.

I am still putting them outside while I clean the bed out and they are wandering off the blanket a bit more and seem more aware of their surroundings.

they have already experienced many different surfaces such as Laminate flooring, ceramic tiles, carpet, Lino, concrete paving slabs, grass and of course newspaper and vet bed.

they are finding it much easier to get in and out of the whelping box now and wander all over the room. they are playing with eachother and toys and everything is going into their mouths. Matt seems to have a couple of teeth but the others aren't through yet.

Matt - 2480g

Doyle - 2060g

Ruby - 2080g

Gizmo - 2350g

Matt is about the weight that Dora was when we got her so it just shows how small she was. She was either alot younger than 8 weeks old or very under nourished. she is heavier than Amber now, and about the same height at the shoulder.

Tuesday

Day 19 Nov 01

The puppies are still growing well. they are getting more lively and taking more interest in toys.

Ruby - 1720g
Gizmo - 1840g
Doyle - 1690g
Have started house training them, or rather they have started house training themselves. when they wake up they leave the box to pee now and have been doing for a couple of days! amazing at only 17 days old.
they are really starting to notice each other and making attempts to play with each other now.
they change so much even in the course of the day

Saturday

Day 16 Oct 29

The puppies are quite lively today. they are really walking properly now and seem to be trying to play with each other.
They can find their way out of the box easily now and toddle all over the room. They are also just about able to get back into the box, but that is hard work.
They are being handled more now by the children as well as myself, and mum and dad also came over for another visit.
Teeth are not through yet but can be felt in the gums.
Got some puppy toys today and they are showing a little bit of interest, sniffing and biting them.
Weights
Matt - 1930g
Ruby - 1620g
Gizmo - 1750g
Doyle - 1530g

Friday

Day 15 Oct 28

the puppies are really zooming around now. I put them on the floor while changing the bedding and they are all over the room. Weighing is hard too as they won't sit still.

Matt - 1700g
Ruby - 1530g
Gizmo - 1620g
Doyle - 1400g

Thursday

Day 14 Oct 27

Two weeks old today.
Matt - 1650g
Doyle - 1350g
Ruby - 1420g
Gizmo - 1540g
Still growing. It is getting much easier to tell them appart without looking to see who has the white where. Ruby has always stood out as she is darker than the boys, but the boys are all very similar in colour. Gizmo has a very well defined mask, and Matt has always been easier to spot as he is so big.

Tuesday

Day 12 Oct 25

Matt - 1470g
Ruby - 1245g
Doyle - 1190g
Gizmo - 1370

Monday

Day 11 Oct 24

Matt - 1370g
Ruby - 1205g
Doyle-1080g
Gizmo - 1240g
They are still wobbling along very well and their eyes are starting to open slightly.

Matt - 1250g
Ruby - 1055g
Doyle - 950g
Gizmo - 1095g
Its getting much harder to weigh them now as they won't sit still. they keep climbing out of the bowl on the scales. They are really up on their legs now.

Saturday

Day 9 Oct 22

Still growing
Matt - 1155g
Ruby - 990g
Gizmo - 1035g
Doyle - 895g

Thursday

Day 7 Oct 20

One week old today. their legs are getting stronger and seem to be walking a little bit. I am still doing the bio-sensor program with them.
Weights today
Matt - 955g
Ruby - 875g
Gizmo - 875g
Doyle - 725g
Doyle has made up for his smaller weight gain yesterday and Gizmo takes the prize for the most weight gained with 120g.

Day 6 Oct 19

Pups still doing well. they are getting stronger and trying to stand. They can move very fast when they want to.
Amber is not quite so posessive of them as she was. she stilll won't let the other dogs near them but she is spending more time out of the whelping box.
Weights today

Matt - 875g
Ruby - 760g
Gizmo - 755g
Doyle - 640g.
Ruby made the biggest weight gain this time as she put on a massive 110g and over took her brother. Doyle only put on 40g but he has more than doubled his birthweight and they are not a week old until tomorrow so I am not worrying too much. I have encouraged him to suckle a couple of times to day just so he doesn't slip too far behind the others.
All the pups are at least double their birthweight now.

Tuesday

Day 5 Oct 18

Puppies are still growing fast. Matt is still the biggest but for the first time Gizmo put on the most weight as he gained 105g today and matt only managed 100g! Gizmo has now over taken Ruby.

Matt - 790g
Ruby - 650g
Gizmo - 680g
Doyle - 600g

They seem to be able to go longer periods between feeds now and Amber is spending more time out of the whelping box. She is still very watchful if the other dogs get too near the puppies so we keep them away as far as possible.

Sunday

Day 3 Oct 16

The puppies seemed to be very noisy last night. the woke me up several times. I pointed them in Ambers direction but they seem to make quite a noise when suckling.
I was worried that maybe Amber didn't have enough milk until I weighed them this morning Matt has put on 100g in a day!
the 2 middle ones have put on 75g and 70g and even Doyle the smallest has put on 65g so I don't thing they are starving.

Matt - 620g
Ruby - 525g
Gizmo - 520g
Doyle - 440g

Saturday

Day 2 Oct 15

the puppies are growing well. Amber is looking after them very well.
Matt - 520g

I have started the Bio sensor programme with them.
http://www.taylordcanines.com/biosensor.html.
they are in the bedroom with me at the moment and the night feeds disturbed me more than Amber I think.
